Parallel CircuitA parallel circuit has two more paths for current to flow through. Voltage is the same across each component of the parallel circuit. The sum of the currents through each path is equal to the total current that flows from the source.

Series CircuitA series circuit is a circuit in which resistors are arranged in a chain, so the current has only one path to take. The current is the same through each resistor. The total resistance of the circuit is found by simply adding up the resistance values of the individual resistors.

Prototype Assembly
Our initial design was to create a star-fished robot, but once we started building our prototype, and researching, we realized it was not a great idea because it would turn out to be very expensive, and very difficult to do. The starfish model required many 60 degree three way joints that were not typically used. Also, creating a starfish model would easily flip over in the water, which would be a horrible case, and would be very difficult to rebuild.
Our backup design was to create a robot that was mainly used for taking photographs. We built an ROV that has a space and secure holding for our GoPro 4, which would be used for taking shocking, HD underwater videos and pictures. Our group liked our finial designed frame because it is simple, but effective.

When building the frame, you need to drill holes into the joints in order for the ROV to float underwater, and so it is able to drain the water when making its way to the top of the water. You would need to first clamp it so it is secure before drilling. When drilling the holes, drill them as close as possible to the edge of the joint and make sure you only drill one side, not both because that defeats the purpose of a drain hole.
prototype Critique Feedback
After creating our prototype, our class had a critique session, where we went around to each prototype and critiqued it. When everyone went around to give our group advice, that is when we realized we should ditch the starfish design, and create a simpler one.

ship logs and underwater camera test
Every great boat has a ship log. Today we created ship logs for our ROV and documented each trial. Our group was the very first group able to attach the underwater camera onto Aquamarine, our robot. Watching and recording our ROV's view was very cool because we got to see underwater, without going under! We are very excited to see what our ROV will watch in the ocean rather than a pool. Our group also wants to attach our GoPro onto our ROV so we can take pictures and record the process.

Electrical Subsystem
The computer PCB board is one of the most important pieces of our robot. It controls how our robot works and how it moves around. To complete the board we had to solder all the different components on to the board. The reason for soldering is to make sure all of the components stay in place. We melt the solder with the iron on to the board so it won't come off. We had to make sure to not touch the board with the solder or the soldering iron because the board would burn and not work for us anymore. We started by soldering the little parts on first and then moved our way up to the larger pieces.
The way the circuit works is the different components on the board send signals through the wires to our ROV. If there was a loose component, a missing one, or if the soldering was done wrong then the whole robot would not work. That is where the continuity test comes in.

Layers of WaterProofing
The three layers of waterproofing are electrical tape, toilet wax and lastly the film canisters. We used the electrical tape first so the water wouldn't soak up the motors and kill them. After putting electrical tape you probably think you are done, but there is still a possibility water can kill it, so just to be safe we put it into a film canister and added wax on the bottom and top. Doing this made our motor secure and dry no matter what circumstance.
Continuity TEst
The continuity test is when we test our PCB board to see if it works with our robot, making sure no wires are loose. If the continuity reader stays at the number one it means there are no loose wires and it should work perfectly fine! Most times that is not the case. When the reader changes into a different number other than one, for example the picture on the left, it reads 12.42, it means that it wouldn't have worked.
